The Window Seat

The flight attendant was passing by when my five-year-old daughter Autumn tapped my shoulder asking," Daddy do you see the clouds?"

Maybe later sweetie," I said. It was her first flight and she was sitting by the window.

She turned to Mickie who was sitting my right.  "Mommy do you want to see the clouds?"

"No thank you baby," Mickie responded.  She stroked my arm with her thumb and whispered," And you thought giving her the window seat was a bad idea."

"I know dear," I said, glancing over at Autumn, who continued to watch the clouds.

This was originally submitted to the Inlander's 100 word stories content last year. I actually wrote this while sitting next to a marine and his girlfriend.
